Creating A Study Planner You Can Stick To

Hey peeps!
Today I will be blogging about studying and how to create an amazing study planner that you will be able to stick to. This will cover planners for all ages and budgets so don't worry if you feel like you are not being targeted by the heading of the post - you most certainly are! I hope you really enjoy this useful post as much as I enjoyed planning and writing it. Happy reading!
OK, firstly you NEED a good notebook or diary you can use to record your study timetable and all other notes that are important for class and study. Most of my favourite planners/diaries/notebooks are sold at Paperchase and the ever-growing Blott if you are interested in buying a new one primarily for this purpose. You can also get less expensive jotters and notebooks at the 99p store and Wilko.
After you have chosen a notebook you will use for the entire year/term/period, you need to find your study timetable page and copy your personal timetable into it. In my homework planner I have a page at the back where I have pinned my timetable and I have coloured each period in if I need to take a book to the lesson and shaded the others in grey so I can keep track of which periods are when and which books I will need daily. It is a great way of recording what you will need for the day ahead and looks pretty cute too - I used three shades of pink and purple to mark out each period (pink for Science and Maths, darker pink for English, light purple for History, medium for Spanish and French, and dark purple for Geography and Art). I also use different colours, blue and green, for homework or assignments that are due in for each period.
Other things you want to do immediately after buying your notebook are things like writing out any dates you should record, homework that is due in and any homework you were assigned before. This will allow you to concentrate on homework and if you use bright colours, such as pink or highlighter yellow/green, which will stand out on the page and catch the eye. I do this ALL the time and use my set of 5 highlighters for recording homework and honestly, it actually works.
Colour coding is super-fun and helps you decide which assignments to do when - say you use pink for Maths, yellow for Science, green for English and so forth, then your homework will be easier to sort and you can see which things you have and haven't done ahead of their due date.
This next tip is slightly personal - I advise purchasing a set of stickers, such as crosses and ticks, to control which assignments you have done. I find having little pink or green ticks on my work/planner makes everything so much easier to tackle and complete.
After doing all this, I would probably put it on my desk open at the week it's currently on so I can easily find what I'm looking for without skimming through the whole book first, which I'm sure you'll agree is completely irritating and unnecessary.
Hope you enjoyed this post! If you could share this with a few friends or family members, that would be amazing - we'd love to spread the news! Thanks:)

Saturday Morning Baking Recipe 1 - Skittle Cookies

Hey peeps!
I (Girl Behind The Screen) will be posting a different recipe on here each Saturday for any of you baking lovers out there! They will mostly be treats or puddings, i.e cupcakes or cookies, which I will be doing today. Please comment below if you would like to see any recipes to appear on here and I will try my hardest to include them! Thank you to anyone who bothers to comment and give us any useful feedback, or who shares this blog and makes us more popular (it would be incredible if you could...). Thanks! Happy reading!

Skittle Cookies
You will need:
  • 250g plain flour
  • 15g baking powder or bicarbonate soda
  • 170g unsalted butter, melted
  • 200g dark brown soft sugar
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 10ml vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk (separate from the egg above)
  • 200g Skittles (you can choose which type) I am using Originals
This recipe will make roughly 18 cookies and is suitable for vegetarians, though not vegans (sorry!).
It takes 40 mins to make, allowing 10 minutes for preparation time, 15 minutes for baking and 15 for cooling.

  1. Preheat your oven to 170 C, or Gas mark 3 (you might need an adult to do this if you aren't sure).
  2. Take a baking tray (large enough to fit 18 cookies) or 2 smaller ones and line them with greaseproof baking paper or parchment. If you like, smear a spoonful of butter/margarine across the paper for maximum non-stick.
  3. Sift together the salt, baking powder and plain flour and leave in a separate bowl.
  4. In a different bowl, mix the melted butter, brown sugar and caster sugar until completely together and there is no trace of any sugar that hasn't been stirred in.
  5. Beat in vanilla, egg and egg yolk until your mix is a light colour and suitably creamy.
  6. Now cream in the sifted ingredients until blended together nicely. Stir in the Skittles by hand using a wooden spoon (if they are too large you might want to use a knife to half them but I prefer leaving them whole). Drop the cookie dough onto the prepared baking trays, with each cookie around 4 tablespoons of dough (for smaller cookies, drop 1 rounded tablespoonful and adjust baking time as necessary). Do not flatten the dough. Cookies should be about 8cm apart.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges are lightly toasted and the cookies look brown but not burnt. Cool on baking trays for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool properly; this will take about 15-20 minutes.
  8. Once your cookies are nice and cool, you can enjoy them.
I hope this Skittle Cookies recipe is fun and easy - make sure to be careful when putting your cookies in the oven and keep an eye whilst they are cooking! Use oven gloves to take them out so you don't burn yourself.
Thank you for reading. Next Saturday's recipe will feature two recipes, both healthy breakfast muffins, so be sure to keep reading to find out how to make those too! Please share this and like, comment and subscribe - thanks!

Girly Night In

Hey peeps!
Today's post is about girly nights in and how to achieve an amazing one. Happy reading!
OK, here are five things I will always do BEFORE my girly night in:
1. Put my phone away and shut it down.
2. Have a light dinner and a drink of water.
3. Pack bag for the next day if necessary
4. Finish doing any homework or assignments.
5. Organise everything I will need.
Once I have done all this I feel slightly better and ready to really attack a fun, cosy girly night in. Having organised your bag and homework you instantly feel relaxed and ready, and keeping my phone away means I have no beeping distractions.
Now, everyone knows in order to have a successful girly night in, you need to have a nice, deep bath. Yesterday I had the most amazing bath - it was steamy and deep and I used a Lush bath bomb which made the whole room smell gorgeous. It was so refreshing just lying back and shutting my brain down for a bit!
If you are like me and LOVE baths with a capital L (or, you know, capital everything) then I recommend lighting a few candles nearby to set the scene. I used a jasmine and vanilla candle for Next and two tealights in beautiful new tealight holders in the shape of birds.
You also need a bath bomb; don't laugh, it is an absolute necessity. I like Lush bath bombs because they are pretty reasonably priced and smell heavenly (I buy the Dragon's Egg Bath Bomb and the red Bath Bomb most as they are my all-time favourites). You could also have bath salts or bath oil if you like smelling nice, but I prefer bath bombs as they make the bath look and smell great.
Then you need a snack. Good girly snacks are chocolate brownies, muffins, yogurt and granola or a fruit salad but if you don't have time you could have a pancake or some fresh fruit or chocolate. Then run your bath, add the bath accessories and jump in!
After your bath you need to watch a film under a blanket with a hot chocolate and whipped cream. I recommend Pitch Perfect 1 and 2 as they are timeless and a great chick flick to lift you from whatever mood you are in. Mean Girls and Frozen are also perfect.
Now for a proper snack - Doritos and an assortment of dips are a light and fun snack to make and eat in front of a cute film, and they taste amazing. You NEED a hot chocolate with floating marshmallows and a mountain of whipped cream - that is the best film drink you could imagine. If you are looking for something a bit healthier, you could go for a squash mocktail or a cup of sweet coffee.
After your film if I have time I would probably do a manicure and a pedicure, and perhaps a quick facial massage. I recommend simply clipping and filing your nails, applying a basecoat and a nail polish colour, and then a topcoat to seal. For my face I would make sure any makeup I was wearing had been removed and would then moisturise and cleanse my face and then use my fourth finger (because it has the least pressure) to massage my skin. I'd then wash it all off and sponge my face with freezing water. All this makes it feel like a real spa night/girly night in and finishes it off with a relaxing touch.
Thank you for reading!
I would really love it if you could share this blog and this post with anyone you think might enjoy it - that would be amazing!
Thank you again.

Hey peeps!
Today I wanted to talk to you all about motivation. Motivation is getting up when you fall, trying again when you don't succeed. Me and Rebecca use this all the time. Rebecca is an amazing gymnast (she can do round of flicks!!!) and it takes so much motivation for her to get out of bed and train. She does two hours of gym a week, which requires motivation to give up her Saturday afternoon, and spend it training! At cheerleading, I've had to work extra hard, even when I thought I couldn't do extended prep, I still managed. Also, when we blog. We need motivation to post. Often, we really want to post. We wake up and have great post ideas! Other days, we can't be bothered. Despite the urge to just stop, together we've managed to post daily since we started this blog! We're also only 50 views of 1000!!!

Recently, I've been working really hard on my dance/gymnastics fitness. This week (which has only been 3 days!) I've tried to do 30 minutes of dance a day. On Monday, I did. On Tuesday, I did 1 hour and 30 minutes because I had a class during the day too! Today, I did 30 minutes. I'm never going to think: "I really feel like doing some push-ups right now". So  far, I've been managing to persuade myself to do some! This is motivation.

Motivation doesn't come easily, but it pays off. You really need to push yourself and want something very much in order to be motivated. Once you do, often you're rewarded! If it's going to the gym you're avoiding, those perfect legs afterwards are a great 'prize'. If it's studying for a test, your 'prize' is a potential fabulous grade!

You can't do amazing things without motivation. Darcey Bussel, for example, wasn't just born with 20 pirouettes. Jamie Oliver couldn't even use an oven when he was born. So... How did they make it? They used their motivation as fuel to power them through, coming out on top.

I hope the meaning of this post has got you thinking. Do you agree? Make sure to let me know in the comments!

How to have the perfect Tumblr room with DIYs!

Hey peeps!
I've recently redecorated my room, and I must say it looks pretty amazing! I wanted to share with you: A few of my bedroom tips, how to spice up your room with some DIYs and where to get other inspiration from. Your room is somewhere where you spend a lot of time, so its important you have a least some relaxing areas (I have a cushion-corner!) and stick mostly with a theme so it doesn't look like a jumble sale! My room is mostly duck egg blue and cream, with pastel colours mixed in. The tips Im sharing with you can be customized to match any room- mostly depending on the colour scheme.
As I said, I recently redecorated my room. There were several things I needed to consider carefully. These things include: How light the colours are, how big my room is, the vibe/theme I want and what was realistic (by this I mean a swimming pool, compared to a bean bag!). Its important that you think about how big your room will look. Darker colours like burgundy, maroon, emerald and black will make your room dark and look smaller. When you pick the colour for your room, Id suggest pastel pinks, blues, creams, greens, yellows, reds. Still mix in some of your personality! To give your room some class, wallpapers work well. Mine is simple- white with pearly vertical stripes. Once you've got the main part done, think about bedding. Mines a sort of Cath Kidston style. A turquoise with pink and green floral print!
Once you've got the most important parts done (which are those listed above) you can start work on the fun bit. DIYs!!! They're a great way to spice up your room, usually for inexpensive prices. There are lots you can try out.
1. Bunting.
Cut lots of triangles (all equal sized!) and attach them to twine for a rustic look, or ribbon for a chic look. Pick about 3 prints that you like, and print them out the size you'd like your triangles to be, for your bunting. I think a range of Cath Kidston prints would look cute. Polka dots, chevron and striped would look cute too!
2. Twilight jars!
Grab 2-3 jars, preferably the same size and shape. Cut some paper that will fit so it can exactly wrap around the jar. Cut out star shapes in the paper. When you put in a candle, LED ones work, it lights up the stars! Also, wrap some twine around the top of the jar for a super cute rustic vibe.
3. A quote jar.
This one is so simple, and well known, but so great! Decorate a jar so it looks super Tumblr and adorable! Print out some of your favourite quotes and use them to fill the jar.
Hey presto!!
I'm sure once you've done all these DIYs listed above, you'll be desperate for more! There are some really great ways to research DIYs, or ideas you could make yourself, and adapt them to match your room. I like reading magazines mostly, often in the bath. Perhaps you could read them over breakfast, for a nice start to your day! Another idea I'd suggest is checking out blogs or YouTube channels. Bethany Mota has some great inspiration ideas on her channel! Finally, steal ideas from your friends! They shouldn't mind- there isn't really anything wrong with it!
This post was really relaxing and fun to write! I hope you enjoyed it!
Thanks for reading,

Kindness- what it is and why it matters

Hey peeps!
Today I wanted to write to you all about kindness. Yes, it sounds weird but kindness is so important- without kindness where would we be? Kindness is all about putting others before yourself even it isn't what you want. Perhaps you got the last biscuit, and your friend wouldn't have anything. You have 2 choices: Give the biscuit to your friend, or keep it for yourself. By giving up the biscuit for your friend, you're showing an act of kindness. A small act for you, but it could be the highlight of someone else's day. My friend and I were looking for somewhere to sit in lunch a few days ago, and there were plenty seats free. One girl was sat alone with a table just to herself. My friend and I saved her from the embarrassment by sitting beside her. We sat with her today, yesterday and the days before. You can show an act of kindness, possibly giving up something of yours for another person, and gain something from it yourself. Me and my friend made a new friend! That's what kindness is all about.
When was the last time you did something kind? For me, it was today when I complemented a friend on her ring. It was a simple act of kindness, and I wasn't suffering from it, but it must have given her a boost of confidence. Sometimes, kindness doesn't need to be a live or death situation. You could just complement someone, hug them, laugh at their jokes- even if you don't find them funny. Obviously, you shouldn't lie to be kind. Lying is rude- although the odd white lie wont hurt! The thing is, by lying you're not telling the truth- one lie leads to another and it will go against you some day!
Imagine that everytime you are kind, you've made someone happy. Being kind is such a simple action. You might perform numerous acts of kindness per day, all to different people. That means that you've made about 10 people super happy, in about ten minutes! Today, I can count about 8 acts of kindness I've made today. How many have you made?
Sometimes, kindness takes more than just a gesture. Maybe you need to give up your time in order to buy a gift, write a card, send a text, call a friend. But, over all it's worth it. My gran loves when I call her- I don't do it very much but when I do, I know it makes her day. I text a certain aunt all the time, and I know she loves it. It makes me cheered when she replies.
Think about the kind things people do for you. You might be kind, and think: Urgh, I wish I still had my biscuit! Think about all the kind things people do to you. Perhaps they let you join their group in a group assignment. Maybe, they hugged you when you were sad. They might have given up their cookie for you! Try to be grateful. My mum is so kind to me daily. She cooks me tea, helps me do my homework, wakes me up in the morning, even packs my dance kit for me sometimes! My dad is kind too. He: Gives me great advice, supports my interests (dance and designing), makes me laugh, teaches me specific skills (sketching, baking, even gymnastics!). People do all these wonderful things for us and sometimes we don't even notice!
I hope you now feel happy and I've helped you to realise how much others do for us! This world is full of kind people, so enjoy it!

5 Social Media Hacks To Getting a Huge Following

Hey peeps!
I decided a fun post like this might encourage more of you to join social media groups and start promoting your blog or business, which you will see a significant increase in blog views if you follow these tips. It can also be used for an account but I recommend only using all of these daily if you are selling or marketing. Happy reading!
Following people is vital if you are aiming for a high following. On most social media sites it takes about a second to follow someone, so if you can follow 50-60 people in a minute, you can follow over 250 people in five minutes. Do this daily with people also blogging or interested in/about your niche and hobbies and you might get quite a following. If you follow 100 people and half follow you back = 50 followers. If you follow 2000 people in a week and 20% follow you back, that's 400 followers. If this continues over the course of a year you have a potential 20,800 followers plus. And if only 10% of those 20,800 followers look at your blog or click one of your links, that's 2,800 people. That can boost your sales and page views by a whole lot, and it will be no time before your traffic has increased five or ten fold just because you took five minutes each day to follow some people who have the same interests as you.
Post Regularly
Although it can be tempting, don't post every three seconds or some of your most valuable posts and links might be lost in the realms of your timeline/page. Instead, post 2-3 times a day, keeping your updates short and to-the-point. This means more people will feel like reading it because it isn't ten pages long and it is also more useful to them as they are instantly able to see the link and drive more and more traffic to your blog.
On the topic of posting, if you have a blog that contains images, post them too! Images are often a great way to drive traffic to your blog quickly and easily - Pinterest and Tumblr are good for marketing pictures and can be voted up or down to determine how many people see the pic. Keep pinning/posting pictures and more people will see them, meaning you get more traffic and potential customers. People are much more likely to follow and like you if you post regularly and often but not too often; don't seem over-eager!
Sharing is another super-important thing you should do in order to be noticed online. See a cute post relating to your interests or niche, click on the link and share! If you do this a lot and aren't getting traffic or credit, try emailing them or commenting on that person's blog to see if they share your posts. If they are huge like Tanya Burr or Zoella and have massive followings, your post/site could reach a few million views from just contacting someone and sharing a post. Do it daily to really see a rise in followers. Share people's posts regularly and they may well share and follow you back!
Be Popular
Being popular is essential in having a large following. You want to include loads of tags on your post whenever you update so your feed is shown to more and more people. Adding tags adds interest and follows; you could also share your link with people on social sites and watch the number increase daily! However, say you like bird watching and have a birding blog, less people will read your blog as it isn't as popular. Always include popular tags such as hairstyles, beauty, makeup and fashion - these will get you a ton of follows!
You should get into the habit of messaging your followers or friends to make sure they interact and visit/buy things as much as possible. Don't spam them with thousands of links per message - instead, send them a nice message and be super-friendly with a link to your site at the bottom. They won't (probably) ignore you and will be more inclined to visit your blog/site and follow your account as well as hit the share button. It works in many ways.
Hope you liked my post! Please share this post and blog on as many social media sites as possible, that would be amazing. Anyone who does share or follow us will be mentioned at the top and bottom of our next post and will have their link displayed on our sidebar for 5 days, meaning you get loads of traffic too! Thank you for reading and supporting us. Kisses!

5 Tips For Getting Rid of Under eye Circles

Hey peeps!
Today I am posting about under eye circles and how you can get rid of them.
OK, under eye circles are so pesky - appearing each morning without reasoning when they want. If only they told us when they would appear!
Below are five tips I have found very useful whilst trying my hardest to extinguish under eye circles for good. I hope you find them as useful as I do!
1. Each morning, put two refrigerated spoons on your face for 5-10 minutes. This should calm and relax your skin, meaning the circles are slightly lessened in colour. I find it often works best when you put the spoons in the fridge overnight and in the freezer for about 5 minutes before you apply them to your face.
2. If you use make up, use a green shade of eyeshadow on top of concealer and foundation to cancel out the redness. On the colour wheel, green is on the opposite side to red, meaning green eyeshadow/cosmetics work best in getting rid of red circles.
3. Try going to bed earlier. If you are overtired, under eye circles are more common, so going to bed earlier will hopefully reduce redness. I try this once a week and it does work - do it regularly enough and it might completely extinguish them!
4. Vary the concealer you are using to find the perfect one.
5. Splash your face with water daily to soothe skin. You can also massage your skin with your fourth finger and rub the skin gently.
Hope this expertise is useful to you!

American pancake recipe!

Hey peeps!
With Girl Behind the Screen here for breakfast, we're planning to make the nicest pancakes in the world! These are super yummy American pancakes- yum! We really hope you love them as much as we do, although we can't say they're super healthy! (If you're looking for a healthy breakfast, my favourite is Greek yogurt, granola and blueberries!) Here's the recipe...

You will need:
  • 225g Flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 30g butter
  • 300ml milk
  • Butter for frying
  1. Put your flour, baking powder, salt and sugar (all the dry ingredients) in a bowl, and make a well.
  2. Beat the eggs and add them to the mixture.
  3. Add all the wet ingredients and mix them together! Keep going until they're a runny, but slightly thick, consistency. They shouldn't be lumpy, but smooth.
  4. Heat up a frying pan.
  5. Add the butter to the pan so it sizzles, and immediately add dollops of pancakes.
  6. Flip them over when they're hard enough to not fall apart!
  7. When they're cooked through, eat them- best with maple syrup!
Thanks for reading. This is our first recipe on this site- did you enjoy? Let us know in the comments!

Amazing life hacks everyone should know for school and more!

Hey peeps!
Today I am posting something a little different; this post will be filled with life hacks - including girly secrets and very important tips for school/work! The point of this post is just to have fun and help you have fun, too. Happy reading!
OK, the first thing I want to share is a few very useful life hacks. You know, tips that can be used in life to make it more bearable. So, here they are!
1. Pick out the outfit you want to wear the previous night to stop mad panics when you can't find your favourite skirt or the one top that matches your spotty leggings is in the wash. I find this helpful, especially for school.
2. Don't drink coffee or Coke after 7pm. The caffeine keeps you awake all night and prevents a healthy night's sleep.
3. Relax before you go to bed - I recommend reading or writing, but not any screen time half an hour before you go to sleep. The bright light affects your eyes and prevents you from sleeping well.
4. Buy a phone case. The reason I put this on here was to stop you from dropping (thus smashing) your phone and either having to get a new one or not being able to use it. Very helpful life hack - even a £1 clear protective case will do.
5. Don't keep your phone in your room when you are in bed. EVER. This will simply prevent you from getting the right amount of sleep and will hurt your eyes - don't use bright screens in the dark. It might be hard, but I always leave my phone downstairs when I go to sleep, otherwise I'm too tempted!
6. Get Pinterest. It's absolutely brilliant and allows you to look at the cutest, most adorable animal pictures in the history of the world! Loving Pinterest at the moment - if you want to gain more followers, search keywords relating to your account and follow all the pinners pinning stuff relative to yours.
7. Eat breakfast! I say this a lot, but breakfast is uber important and shouldn't be missed! Always eat at least a piece of fruit in the morning to keep you going - you could even take your breakfast to school and eat it there.
8. Have one handbag in use at one time. Never switch between a couple because, basically, you will end up forgetting where stuff like your Polo mints are or which bag you put your phone in and probably end up losing something (I learnt this the hard way). Instead, keep all your handbag items in one bag - it makes life so much easier!
9. Instead of buying eBooks that are physically explaining a process (such as increasing blog traffic) and spending money on it, look online instead. Google is free and will (probably) provide you of the information you need. This way you end up spending time and money - deal!
10. Keep pens/stationery in jars or tins on your desk instead of in drawers. They are easier to access as well as being displayed prettily, rather than being hidden away (and it minimises the risk of you losing them quite a bit!).
Please comment below if you use any of those - I really do find them helpful! Now I am going to list five of my lifesaver school hacks; enjoy!
1. From the age of eleven up, carry a tampon/sanitary towel around with you in your bag. This way, if you start your period in school, it is easy to fix!
2. We all miss days of school; dentist appointments, sick days, funerals, etc. But what if you missed vital information in class? Well, simply type keywords relating to the lesson in YouTube's search bar and then make notes there! Easy, free, and fun.
3. If you are starting a new school where you don't know anyone, ask for phone numbers on induction day. This way you can text people in your class and get to know them before you all start in September - great!
4. Pay attention in class. Simple, but vital if you want to do well in life.
5. Always carry a bottle of water around with you for emergencies. Water gives your brain energy and prevents dehydration - it's pretty important. Drink regularly throughout the day to keep you healthy whilst at school.
Thank you for reading! Feel free to share this post and my blog to anyone. I'd love to spread the news!
